Created in April 2016, You Were Once My Lover is a watercolour, ink and pencil artwork created by Zyra Bañez for the YouTube Artist Collective.

This collective featured several artists from the YouTube community with a shared goal to create an artwork each month based on a selected theme voted by the community.

The April theme was beautiful nightmare. From the get-go, it was certain that the artwork would feature a femme fatale as the subject matter.

The artwork captures the glamour and mystery of the woman surrounded by skulls. What happened to the skulls? Why is she staring so intensely at one?

So many questions without much answers.
